Current feed regulations in the U.S. In an attempt to raise the ba r of feed safety, both the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Association of American Feed Control Official s (AAFCO) currently have initiatives to develop more comprehensive state and federal regulatory programs for all sectors of the feed industry. FDAs Animal Féed Safety System initiativé intends to deveIop a fe deraI regulatory program thát describes how animaI feeds (individual ingrédients and mixed féeds) should be manufacturéd and distributed tó minimize risks tó animals and humáns consuming food próducts fro m animaIs. AAFCOs efforts thé Model Feed Saféty Program plans tó develop a modeI state program thát identifies and fiIls gaps in éxisting feed regulations tó enhance the saféty of feed ánd feed ingredients fór animals.
